Burns Pub added a review to Ardbeg Corryvreckan with a score of 9 / 10
I do like my Ardbegs, and this is no exception. Non-chill filtered, no colour added and bottled at cask strength, the is a weighty one. Dense and full of smoky, briny goodness with a long and lingering finish. Many would have a problem paying this much for a young whisky. Pay attention to the quality, not the age statements!

Talk about your honey-forward drams! There's more to it than just that though, but you get honey from start to finish, as well as some creme brulee and soft pepper on the finish. Even has a touch of smoky oak. This is Glenfiddich's sister distillery and a better whiskey throughout the range. Decent bargain too.

Burns Pub added a review to Connemara Cask Strength with a score of 9 / 10
We carry all the expressions of Connemara at my pub, and this one is the best of the lot. Holds up well to the great peated Scottish SMs. There is certainly peat and smoke, but don't expect Ardbeg... think more of a Ledaig or Caol Ila in terms of peat and smoke. Add a bit of dry honey and brine and grassy notes and the longest finish of the range. Crafted at Ireland's finest distillery, Cooley.

Burns Pub added a review to Jack Daniels with a score of 7 / 10
Anyone that rates this "100" has never tried a good bourbon in my opinion. Loaded with caramel and simply harsh. There are some good elements to it, but overall, a mixing whiskey... can't stand on it's own. It's best asset is it's aroma. Not bad if you only smell whiskey.

Burns Pub added a review to Johnnie Walker Black Label 12 Year Old with a score of 6 / 10
A pretty decent step up from the red, but still not going to recommend it, especially for that price when there are some much better single malts out there in that same range. But you will get a tad more complexity and smoke from this one. Mix it, or drink it on the rocks if you must.

Look up the definition of "bland" in the dictionary. Now apply it to a scotch. TA-DA! Johnnie Walker Red Label... (Cue crickets chirping.)

Burns Pub added a review to Wasmund's Single Malt Whisky with a score of 6 / 10
MAN I really wanted to like this stuff! It started off fine, with only a hint of what was to come, but on the palate, there it was... some odd raw grain... hell I don't even know how to explain it. And it just lingered there. I usually like unique flavor profiles.... this one didn't do it for me at all.

Burns Pub added a review to Four Roses Small Batch Bourbon with a score of 10 / 10
My go to sub $40 bourbon, maybe at any price. When people refer to balance, this is what they are talking about. Sweet fruits (especially bing cherry) and vanilla, soft spices and a gently warming character. Finishes with an even taper. Nothing is overly aggressive, but rewards throughout. Great stuff!

Burns Pub added a review to Bushmills 10 Year old with a score of 8 / 10
Not a bad single malt. Sweet and granola with some fruit on the palate. If it weren't for the short, somewhat lackluster finsh, would score much better, but not a bad entry-level single malt.

Burns Pub added a review to Lagavulin 16 Year old with a score of 10 / 10
Many years ago, this was the scotch that turned me. Not quite as sharp as it once was, but still a luxuriously complex peated malt with one of the best finishes in the industry. Oily with lapsang souchong tea, cereal and dark fruits with a very long, smokey finish. Pricey, but worth it.

Burns Pub added a review to Kilbeggan Irish Whiskey with a score of 9 / 10
People, put the Jameson bottle down! Next time you're at the liquor store, pick this up instead. Blended not only for smoothness (at which it succeeds) but also for it's flavor. Cereal and vanilla notes up front, malt and dried fruits on the finish. A blend that doesn't need to be mixed, but can.

Burns Pub added a review to Tyrconnell 10 Year old Madeira Finish with a score of 9 / 10
"$80 for a Irish whiskey?! Are you out of your mind?!"... "Maybe, but have you tried it?"... "No. Is it good?"... "No. It's superb!"... If this were a scotch and this good, nobody would flinch at the price. Reward yourself if you're a fan of sweeter wine finished single malts. It's lovely stuff and worthy of it's many awards!

Burns Pub added a review to Stranahan's Colorado Whiskey with a score of 9 / 10
I agree with Eden, very interesting flavor profile. But I'm quite fond of it, and that's NOT because I happen to live in Colorado. Not a great bargain though, but certainly worth the price if you like unique flavors in a well done whiskey.

Burns Pub added a review to Oban 14 Year old with a score of 8 / 10
A highlander with a maritime element to it. Very well-respected, and I do like it... just not crazy about it, mainly because it finishes a bit abruptly. Nice sweet notes mixed in with a slightly briny palate.

Burns Pub added a review to Bunnahabhain 12 Year Old with a score of 10 / 10
Proof that Islay doesn't only make great heavily peated malts. A softer dram from the great whisky island that shows much complexity and a much better than average mouthfeel and finish. No colour added, non-chill filtered.
